Home sauna electrical requirements: check this before you buy.
A beautiful sauna is useless if the intended location cannot safely support its electrical demand without upgrades you didn't budget for.
Safety: This is buyer education, not electrical design. Use the exact manufacturer's documentation and a qualified electrician for any new dedicated circuit, hardwired sauna or panel-capacity question.
120V sauna products
Some compact infrared cabins use 120V service, but that does not automatically mean “any outlet.” Manufacturers may require a dedicated 15A or 20A circuit. Verify the plug configuration and circuit requirement before ordering.
240V sauna products
Traditional electric heaters commonly use dedicated 240V circuits. Larger premium infrared systems can also use 240V. Required amperage depends on heater output and configuration, so do not estimate from another model.
The five questions to answer
- What voltage is required?
- What breaker amperage is specified?
- Is the circuit required to be dedicated?
- Is the connection plug-in or hardwired?
- Does the existing electrical panel have adequate capacity?
